How do I know that a website has a valid SSL Certificate? Print

If a website has been secured with an SSL Certificate, it will display as’ https://’ in the browser URL, which stands for Secure HTTP. It will also display a small padlock, whereas the prefix for an unsecured website address is just ‘http://’, http means Hypertext Transfer Protocol.

Often there is a trust mark or a padlock displayed on a SSL Certified site. If one clicks on the Seal or padlock, it will display details of the relevant certificate and company information as verified and authenticated by the CA.

Should a site have an Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certification, then the address bar will turn green in prominently displayed and the address bar turns green in high security browsers.
